So it is obvious that I am bad at updating. I meant to update well before now, but I am both busy and generally lazy. Not a lot has changed since my last post. I do feel like my retainers do not fit well anymore, or at least they don’t hurt or seem to be pushing on my teeth.
I take this as a good sign that I get my next set on Sunday. I also get my rubber bands and I am supposed to get some of my lower teeth filed to allow for better rotation. I am going to have an in-depth talk about this with my orthodontist, however. I am not sure that this is something I want done if it isn’t completely necessary. Most of what I have read says that it isn’t painful, just uncomfortable, but I don’t really want to make my teeth worse than they already are. I believe it is something like 0.5mm gaps that need to be filed between my teeth, if I remember correctly from my last appointment.
After my last post, I got some dental wax to use on the sharp edge of my appliance instead of going back to the dentist to have it filed. It only took about a pea-sized amount to cover the area, and I haven’t even used an entire wax stick out of the two packages that came from CVS. It will probably last me quite a while, so it was a good investment.
I’m not sure if pushing the wax onto the plastic smoothed the edges, or if they just stopped irritating me, but they don’t feel sharp any longer and I don’t use the wax on a daily basis.
I am brushing my teeth about five times a day, give or take my level of laziness and how much/what I eat. I am seriously sick of the taste of toothpaste. The most annoying part is still not being able to eat whenever I want. I’ve kinda gotten on a schedule though, and it helps.
I wake up in the morning and brush my teeth. This gets rid of morning breath as well as cleaning the film that seems to get on my Invisalign over night. I think there was only one morning that I didn’t brush right away, and tried to eat, and it just made me sick. I usually rinse of my trays, and then brush them with my toothbrush. I was using a separate manual toothbrush, which is the one I use when I am at work/out and need to brush my teeth. I have switched to cleaning them with my electric tooth brush in the morning and at night, which helps to get a little more of the grime out of the crevices.
I have only used the Retainer Brite I got from the dentist once. The plastic seemed to be getting a bit of a funk to it, and I was severely afraid of grossing out my fiance or one of my coworkers with my breath. I cleaned them regularly, then just used the tablet as directed. Worked pretty good.
The plastic hasn’t discolored much since I initially got them. They are not as clear, as expected, but strangers/family/friends still say they are not noticeable. I only drank water up until about Tuesday, and then, since I am getting my next set, I started drinking iced tea, through a straw, I put the straw in the back of my mouth and sip, trying not t o get tea all in the plastic. Works well and hasn’t caused any real discoloration that I can notice.
Otherwise, things are going well. The mouth pain and headaches have subsided. I only really notice the discomfort when I am bored, tired, or hungry. It is actually not as bad as I expected.
We will see how things change Sunday when I get the next set.

I am coming to the close of my first full day with my Invisalign teeth aligners. So far, things are not too horrific, but things could be better. First things first, I had to have my two pre-molars removed in order for there to be enough room in my mouth for my teeth to move around and straighten in my mouth. That process has been more annoying that anything. The pain in my mouth has been bearable. The headache caused by the pain is worse than anything. Add that to the headache from my limited food choices, and it’s just all bad. Not being able to eat/snack as often has been the worst part of the past week.
When I got my aligners yesterday, the consultant walked me through the ‘rules.’ I have to wear them as close to 24 hours a day as possible, taking them out only to eat/drink. I can drink water in them, but anything else is discouraged. The aligners weren’t uncomfortable at first. I slipped them onto my teeth and used the provided Chewie to seat them. The Chewie is kinda like a hard, rubber pencil grip. It’s actually fun to use. It helps to get the aligners on properly.
I do have a slight lisp caused by my tongue hitting the aligner instead of my teeth when I talk. It is more noticeable when I am tired or have been talking constantly. It doesn’t make me any more self-conscious than normal.
My mouth and lips are very dry. The cottonmouth feeling drives me insane. I get it anyway because I am on a couple different medications. My lips are becoming more dry and chapped than normal. I am putting on more chapstick because of it, which helps and hinders at the same time.
I didn’t initially notice any sharp edges on the aligners. Throughout today, I noticed that right on the outside front of my bottom tray, the edge is sharp. It seem like the plastic is turned out a little. I have look on forum and it seems like I can have my orthodontist file it for me, or I can do it myself. I don’t want to crack or ruin the aligner, so I will let ortho do it. For now, I purchased some dental wax at CVS and have applied it over the spot. It is helping quite well. Its mint flavored, but since it isn’t in contact with my tongue, it isn’t too bad.
I don’t have any other sores or issues so far. My tongue is a bit raw from rubbing along the edges, but that’s about it. Now the I have the dental wax, my biggest complaint is my headache. I suffer from chronic migraines, so it isn’t a new nuisance, it just seems more obvious to me now.
My fiance says that they aren’t super noticeable unless he is right up next to my mouth. I started a new job today, and nobody commented on them, which was nice, but I’m assuming most adults have the tact to not say things like that to make people uncomfortable. He also says that he can’t feel them when he kisses me on the lips. We haven’t done any more than than, so I can’t comment on whether making out will be difficult.
When I woke up this morning, I did notice that a sort of film had developed on the plastic. It was kinda just like the feeling of morning mouth fuzzies, but more noticeable. I brushed my teeth and rinsed my aligners off, and that got rid of it. I have brushed 3 times today already, which is good. I am terrible about brushing. After breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I brushed and cleaned my aligners with a toothbrush and some water. They aren’t gross or anything, I just had some dry skin from chewing on my chapped lips stuck to the plastic. Guess that it kinda gross.
I do notice a slight bit of change in just this one day. My front two teeth have always had a /\ shape to them, and the angle has become less severe. I didn’t expect movement this quick, but I am not complaining.
I don’t switch sets for another 4 weeks. When I do, I will get elastics, which I am not looking forward to. Two years is really nothing when it comes down to it, though, so I am going to tough it out.
Otherwise, I am not having a terrible experience compared to some of the forums I have read. Overall, I am more annoyed than anything else. I can handle that, though. I think for most people, the issues just become an obsession for people, and I just am trying not to focus on it.
So, that’s all for now, but I will try to update kinda frequently in case anyone is having some questions or an experience about Invisalign. Message me or anything if you have questions and I can try and answer.

I’ve seen a bunch or random character generators floating around, so I decided to make one myself! This is a FANTASY GIRL GENERATOR!, based of all those cute posts about diverse elves and mermaids and whatnot. Make a character, draw the character, and post it to the tag #fantasy girls. Just drag and drop, and get drawing!
I got Centaur, Middle-Eastern, White hair, athletic/toned, bow and arrow, scarring/burns.
THAT IS THE COOLEST, MOST BADASS CENTAUR LADY I CAN THINK OF. I’D DRAW HER IF I HAD ANY, ANY GRASP OF EQUINE ANATOMY.
I got an African mermaid with tattoos and black hair, with a slender build and bows and arrows!
The lovely Hoya Vine I have growing in my back yard <3 there’s always at least one cluster of buds at some different stage in the blooming process
I have been watching Lord of the Rings since 6:30am. I don’t know what year it is. I have forgotten the taste of bread, the sound of trees, the softness of the wind. I’ve even forgotten my own name
I watched Brave for the second time recently and, while I was disappointed the first time I saw it in theaters, I liked it much better this time around and the story has really begun to grow on me and I’m starting fall in love with it.
You might notice me trying out new style and techniques based around some of my favorite artists for a while because I’m working on stretching the creative muscles and stepping out of my comfort zone. The design style in the piece was inspired by the amazing Shoomlah’s Toile designs
I was going to use a different secondary color, but gold seemed to be the only one that universally combined well with all the other colors :/ and I also decided to keep Merida’s hair red since its such a symbolic part of not only her character but the movie
Don’t leave your house at night, when the jellyfishes comes out…
